Academics

Anderson Academy of Mathematics and Science will incorporate a challenging, disciplined, yet creative instructional approach to the school wide curriculum.  The institution’s primary purpose is to make a systematic change by improving the racial achievement gaps, academic disparity, and dropout rate of middle and high school students through educational/academic enrichment.  Hard work, dedication, and courage are three essential traits for transgression and resurgence in communities suffering from low morale, deprivation, and poor academic performance.  Anderson Academy of Mathematics and Science will utilize honesty, and communication with parents, students, and staff while insisting that the goals and aspirations of each party coincide with the vision and mission of the AAMS program.  The methodologies, ideologies, techniques, and strategies will center on creative child development and academic improvement through cross-curricular instruction with an emphasis on mathematics and science.

The practices will include strong collaborative and partnership based initiatives centered on academic nurturing and enrichment.  Strong interpersonal relationships between staff, students, and parents who are all encouraged to engage actively in daily constructive feedback and dialogue.  The concepts will be age appropriate and facilitated by energetic, loving, dedicated and talented educators whose sole purpose is making a difference in the lives of children through academics. Mathematics, Science, and Technology will play a major role and will initiate a multitude of techniques and strategies for enrichment, research, and evaluation in relation to staff, students, and parents.

Anderson Academy of Anderson Academy of Mathematics and Science will recruit and hire experienced and skilled educators consequently surrounding students with a diverse and talented pool of dedicated and energetic instructors. AAMS will incorporate small classroom sizes thus enabling the structure and discipline necessary to create an academically challenged atmosphere where Mathematics and Science will utilize individualized and small group instruction along with grade level grouping as methods for developing a prosperous school wide learning atmosphere.

School Culture

The philosophy behind the mission and vision of Anderson Academy of Mathematics and Science and its secular non-sectarian curriculum is centered on attracting at-risk inner city students from various backgrounds, demographics, and religious denominations.  This choice will prevent us from negating any specific student(s) deemed academically at-risk, underserved, in despair, or unequal, no matter what his or her beliefs may be. Parents and community involvement will also be a major factor in developing a school wide culture based on a commitment to excellence and academic prosperity.

The spiritual development will be the responsibility of the founders to thoroughly and meticulously incorporate and convey the mission and vision to all future employees and constituents whose duties will include establishing a school wide environment based on ethical decision making, which will only enhance the curriculum, school culture, and ultimately the entire morale of the school community and district.  All constituents and employees will have the responsibility of initiating and modeling the proper behaviors and traits both from a moral and ethical standpoint, which will be practiced by the entire student body.  The student body will eventually not only practice these behaviors and traits but also carry them throughout their neighborhoods and society in general.  The overall attraction and recruitment of instructors, administrators, custodians, coaches, etc. will be vital. The expectations and by-in by these individuals will be necessary in not only developing such a culture but also carrying it out and implementing it as well.  The ability of the founders to properly convey the expectations and attract the personnel necessary will be key components to the overall manifestation of the mission and vision of Anderson Academy of Mathematics and Science.

Each student will be presented with a cultural philosophy, which reflects the mission and vision.  The requirement of the mission and vision will expound on self-respect, self-reliance, self-empowerment, and accountability through group collaborations based on positive social, cultural, and academic unity and prosperity.  School leaders will represent these attributes and come to expect these components from their fellow constituents, students, and parents as well.

The overall character education will coincide with the curriculum and school culture on a daily basis.  The aura and atmosphere of Anderson Academy of Mathematics and Science will be one, which fosters ethical responsibility and caring students based off proper modeling by the entire student body and staff sharing the values of the institution as a whole. The founders are firm believers in long-term solutions rather than quick-fix measures when addressing moral, ethical, or academic issues that do not reflect the character education represented by the mission and vision of Anderson Academy of Mathematics and Science.
